True Ski-In/Ski-Out
At Lone Mountain Retreat, you are ideally positioned to make the most out of your skiing or boarding experience. We offer a true ski-in/ski-out experience that is appropriate for all levels of skiers.
Walk 20 steps to the edge of the White Wing Run, put on your skis, and ski a short distance to the Explorer Lift. They will slow the lift down for inexperienced riders and young children.
Enjoy the views on the way up! Exit the to the left and ski down to the base area. Most of the runs are green, but more experienced skiers can choose an alternate route, if desired.
When returning to the condo from the top of the Swift Current Lift, ski down Mr. K then cross over to the White Wing run - a fun easy green.
Ski directly to the garage. Pop off your skis and come in for lunch or a break - it’s truly that easy.
walkability
Lone Mountain Retreat is also unique due to its “walkability.” We are an easy 5 minute walk from the center of Mountain Village, providing access to restaurants, shops, ski services, resort activities, and a convenient small grocery. Guests can choose from a wide variety of food and beverage options, including fun après-ski options, fine dining establishments, family friendly restaurants, and cafeteria-style services featuring diverse types of food. Picking up lift tickets, arranging ski lessons, and signing up for resort-based activities is also easy and convenient. Pick and choose from ziplining, guided hiking or snowshoeing, disc golf, archery, scenic lift rides, or boating and paddle boarding at Lake Levinsky. For a more relaxed day, spend a few hours in the Firehole Lounge sipping hot chocolate next to a roaring fire, watch a Warren Miller film at The Yellowstone Theater, or relax and recover from all that skiing at the Solace Spa.
For those wanting to further explore the town of Big Sky, take advantage of the free, convenient shuttle system that transports guests from the Mountain Village to the Town Center and Meadow Village areas. There you can enjoy additional dining and shopping options, art galleries, a movie theater, and access to larger grocery stores. You’ll also want to look into Town Center activities such as the Farmer’s Market, Music in the Mountains, and other events. Again, no car is required.
Unlike many vacation rental properties in Big Sky, our location makes renting a car optional. For larger groups, guests staying for longer periods, and those wanting to explore areas outside of Big Sky, a car is usually recommended. However, guests who wish to avoid winter driving or the expense of a rental will be able to enjoy themselves in Big Sky using our public and airport transportation options. We are happy to help you make the best decision for your group and to pass along recommendations for shuttle and private car services to and from the airport. Most will deliver you directly to our front door.

experience
Our names are Shannon & Will and we are here to help you have the very best Montana vacation you can imagine. We are a family of 6, now with 4 grown children that consider Big Sky, Montana their true home base. We began skiing here in 2003 and purchased Lone Mountain Retreat in 2005 because we had simply never loved skiing anywhere else quite as much. Our children all learned to ski on the gentle green slopes right outside our door, beginning at the tender age of 2-3. It’s why we purchased this place - the location makes everything simple! We have a great deal of collective experience with this mountain, and whether you are returning to the sport, teaching your children to ski, or legitimate pros, we can get you set up and offer any advice you need.
Over the years, we have rented and shared Lone Mountain Retreat with many families, mostly through word of mouth or personal connection. As long-term owners, we can offer our guests a great deal of useful advice about both winter and summer activities, restaurants, nearby attractions, seasonal events, etc. Over the past 20 years, we have had the opportunity to do it all, and we will do our very best to help you plan for a truly awesome, individualized experience.
Please reach out to us with any questions. We would be delighted to host you and welcome you as one of our (hopefully) yearly guests!
